Abbi Coleman

Darlington and South Durham Coordinator

From leaving school I have worked in the licensing trade; there I gained a vast amount experience and a number of qualification resulting in me becoming a hotel manager in a number of locations. As I started my family I realised I wanted to use all my customer service skills to help vulnerable people, as I felt I had so much more to offer. Initially I started to volunteer for the Restorative Justice Hub, gaining my Level 3 in Restorative Solutions whilst helping people to resolve their disputes. I then volunteered with the ‘Community Peer Mentors’, and I really enjoyed the challenge of supporting vulnerable and isolated people and helping to make a real positive difference to their lives.

In 2019 I became the ‘Community Peer Mentors’ Business Coordinator; this was a great opportunity for me to help shape the future for the ‘Community Peer Mentors’. Since starting I have gained qualifications in ‘Equality and Diversity’ and ‘Mental Health’, including ‘Mental Health First Aid’; whilst completing my Business and Administration NVQ. I have gained an in depth understanding in a number of subjects which t is felt will be of benefit in supporting clients, mentors and the area coordinators; these include, ‘Alcohol Awareness’, ‘Managing Volunteers’, Level 3 Safeguarding Adults and Children, and my Graded Care Profile License. I represent the ‘Community Peer Mentors at the local ‘Multi Agency Problem Solving (MAPS) meetings and Durham Constabulary ‘Ethics Committee’, and I am a First Aider.

I am passionate about the Community Peer Mentors and the work we do to enable people to live their best life.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my three children Oliver, Nate and Erica and our dog Bobbie. I also enjoy reading psychological thrillers and cooking.
